ORIGINAL: So much for the Bones/Rumble dream fight. UFC Lightheavyweight Champion Jon Jones is reportedly out of his title defense at UFC 187 against Anthony Johnson, according to MMA insider Front Row Brian. This was followed by a report that Jones was involved in a three-car accident and fled the scene. Reportedly, cocaine was found at the scene. Jones, if you'll recall, failed a drug test prior to his high-profile title defense against Daniel Cormier on January 3. The failure was for benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine.
The defense against Johnson was fixing to be a real money-maker, but clearly Jones' future in UFC is in doubt. Jones reportedly only spent one night in rehab back in January after news of his failed test went public, so you'd figure a longer stay is in the cards.
UPDATE: 11:15 PM EST MMAFighting.com is reporting that Jones is being sought for questioning in a hit-and-run in Albuquerque, which is said to have taken place Sunday morning. The car of a middle-aged woman was struck by another vehicle that fled the scene. Police have not said whether or not Jones is considered a suspect.
There is nothing to back up the earlier report of Jones having been arrested, or the claim that cocaine was found at the scene. Anthony Johnson's manager, Glenn Robinson, has not heard anything about the May 23 fight being postponed at this time.
