Swerve! WWE Network is Free Once More!
For third out of five months in 2015, WWE Network is free to all new subscribers, as announced during today's investors conference call.
After parroting the "9.99" catchphrase since last summer with as much vigor as they hyped No Holds Barred in 1989, it's funny that the pull for new subscribers has rendered the buzzphrase useless, at least for 28, 30, or 31 days as a subscriber.
As someone that has subscribed for 14 months (i.e. the first day the Network became available) loyally without ever getting any sort of discount, am I bitter about this? Not really, but you do see a parallel to WWE storylines: they cater more to the fans they don't have than the ones that were loyal from day one. That's because they know us day one schlubs aren't going anywhere, because look: Marc Mero vs. TL Hopper is there whenever I want it.
So for all new subscribers, enjoy your free Payback and your free NXT TakeOver. We all know Vince loves you more.
It should also be noted that WWE stock took quite a dump in the early going today, falling as much as five percent before noon. As you can imagine, company investors don't like when you give away the mothership product for free to possibly-disloyal customers.
